At Stonebriar Chevrolet, we believe every car owner should learn to recognize the signs of mechanical issues. There are some sounds you never want to hear your car make. Here are a few of those car sounds and how to react when you hear them.

Engine Clicking

A clicking sound from your car's engine could mean that the car is low on engine oil. You should check the oil on the dipstick and add oil if needed. If this fails to resolve the issue, there may be a more serious problem with the valvetrain. In that case, you should have your car inspected by technicians at a service center.

Squeaky Brakes

Any noise that comes from your brakes, including squeaks or grinding noises, probably means that parts of the braking system are worn. Brakes are made up of many different parts. When one part becomes worn, others may suffer. An inspection of your braking system is in order, and you should arrange for replacements of brake pads or other parts that are worn.

Engine Rattling

Rattles from the engine are usually related to something called pre-detonation. This is a premature ignition of the fuel system. It could indicate that the engine's ignition timing is off, or it may mean that there is improper octane fuel. These types of issues are best left to experienced professionals.

Knocking From Under the Hood

A knocking sound under the hood is usually a sign of a serious mechanical issue. The valves, pistons, or other major parts of your engine may be compromised. It is important for you to find a service center right away.

Engine Squealing

The belts on older vehicles can sometimes create a squeal. Engine squealing can also be the result of worn belts that are attached to specific components like the power steering system or alternator. If you drive a newer model, you may have a problem with the serpentine belt.

We want to invite you down to our service center where we can diagnose the cause of any car sounds that you may be hearing. Our team is certified to work on all makes and models. We pride ourselves on the highest standards of customer service.
