Corvette EV Officially In The Works

The rumors of an all-electric Corvette may be accurate, and we can see the first iteration in 2023 as an electric hybrid with an all-electric version soon after. However, few facts are released on the secretive 2023 C8 variation code-named the E-Ray Corvette.

At this time, the first model will be an electric-hybrid version. The first version of the hybrid will pair a potent 600 horsepower 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine and an electronic motor on the front axle. The electric motor's addition is also expected for the E-Ray to produce zero emissions at 20-35 horsepower.

With the code name e-Booster, the electric motor will add another fifty horsepower to a total of 650 horsepower. The 2023 E-Ray hybrid will boost total horsepower output and make it the first all-wheel drive Corvette. The performance will also increase with the addition of the electronic motor.

Adding the electric motor increases the horsepower and also increases performance. With the electric motor, 0-60 times are a blistering 2.0 seconds which places the 2023 E-Ray in the performance range of the $225K McLaren Artura. The all-electric Zora version will be introduced after the E-Ray and is thought to generate 1,000 horsepower.

The electrified Corette will be using the GM Ultium battery platform. Creating the new battery resulted from GM re-allocating engineers to develop an efficient and powerful battery platform for transitioning the GM lineup to EVs by 2035.

The Corvette E-Ray, based on what is currently known, will not be a plug-in hybrid but will utilize regenerative braking technology. The E-Ray will continue to use the highly efficient eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Considering the expected exhilarating performance, the 2023 Corvette E-Ray should be priced in the $100,000 range and will provide great value in the high-performance automobile market.
