Chevy will reintroduce a classic next year with the return of the iconic Blazer, a midsize SUV produced by the brand from 1983 to 2005. The 2019 Blazer will be the only midsize two-row SUV in the Chevy lineup, landing between the Equinox, a compact, and the Traverse, a midsize model with three rows. Whether you're a Blazer fan from back in the day or just excited to find a Chevy in this family-friendly niche, here's what you need to know about this vehicle's unique blend of the latest technology with functional utility.
First, every trim is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen display mounted in the center of the dash and will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. A wireless hotspot is also standard on the 2019 Blazer. High-tech upgrades include wireless charging and up to six USB ports.
The Blazer is built to tow, and if you opt for a V6 model you'll benefit from Hitch Guidance and Hitch View technology to make it easier to do so. This engine gets 305 horses and can tow up to 4,500 pounds. The four-cylinder base engine of the Blazer gets 193 horsepower. Both come with a nine-speed automatic transmission and can be upgraded from front-wheel to all-wheel drive.
Sliding and reclining rear seats are standard, a rarity among two-row midsize SUVs. Other available features that make the Blazer such a functional vehicle include a hands-free liftgate and rear camera mirror. With the rear seats folded, you'll be able to access more than 64 cubic feet of cargo space.
Although standard safety features for the 2019 Blazer haven't yet been announced, it's expected to mirror the Traverse by including a base model rear view camera, rear seat reminder system, and Teen Driver functionality for speed limit control and other features. The available driver assistance upgrades will likely include adaptive cruise control, forward collision and rear cross traffic alerts, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and a surround-view camera.
